My Story

Now the Head Teaching Professional at Abbeydale Golf Club I have been a professional since 2001 and had the privilege of competing all over the world (44 countries to date). During this time I have competed on the European Tour (over 30 events), European Challenge Tour, Asian Tour and Sunshine Tour. I have played with and on occasion beaten some of the world’s best players including 5 ‘Major’ champions and over 20 Ryder Cup players. I won twice on the European Challenge Tour (2004 and 2005) and in 2006 graduated from there to the main European Tour alongside the likes of Martin Kaymer, Alex Noren, Alvaro Quiros and Rafa Cabrerra Bello. During my tournament career I was able to work with some of the very best coaches and minds in the game, most notably Pete Cowen (renowned European Tour coach), Graham Walker (Head England coach) and the late, great physio Ramsay McMaster.

Having made the decision to stop competing full time and move into coaching (although I still compete at local and national level) I embarked on my PGA Qualifications which I completed in 2016. Improving my knowledge and expertise is something I take pride in and during my training I have been recognised with both regional and national awards including the Major John Bywaters trophy for the leading ‘rookie assistant’ (awarded to the student with the best marks nationally, beating approximately 280 of my peers). I believe it is the duty of a coach to accumulate as much knowledge as possible to then make the game as simple as they can for their players
